We were upgraded to the villa at check-in. I'd definitely recommend staying in one of the villas - they're spacious and very well-appointed with modern fittings and furnishing, large bathroom, very comfortable bedding and enough sockets to charge all your devices.
Service was exceptional. The front desk was super helpful in making all our taxi and restaurant bookings - Cherry, in particular, was very efficient and offered good recommendations.
The restaurant staff was also fantastic - even though the buffet breakfast ends at 9am (which is really early, especially for travelers like me who like to sleep in), the servers were more than happy to prepare special orders outside of buffet hours and even dishes that were not available on the buffet line if you wanted :). Oliver at the restaurant was just the best. He even remembers exactly how you like your coffee!
The resort is a little away from Nyaungshwe town but it didn't bother us too much - taxis are easily available and the hotel also has its own jetty if you prefer to take the boat to town instead. If you’re looking for a quiet boutique-style resort – not your typical mainstream hotel chain – This. Is.
It! It is comparable to any 4- or 5-star hotel chain in terms of décor, settings and service levels in my opinion. I would definitely stay here again and would also not hesitate to stay in other Amata resorts in Myanmar.
